A word about ads: Like any entrepreneurial type, I'd love to turn a profit from something I really enjoy. For now, I have decided not to accept paid advertisements. If I pitch a product here, it is something I have examined and tested and deem it beneficial to our readers.

What people are saying about The Joy of Bocce...

 Joy of Bocce goes multi-lingual
Please check out the Joy of Bocce web site at www.joyofbocce.com. We've finalized the language translation tool that allows you to click on a country's flag at the bottom of the page and get the site instantly translated into that country's language.

Currently we are set up for English, Italian, Spanish, and French. This type of computer programming is a kind of artificial intelligence and is not 100% accurate. But people who are fluent in more than one language tell me that these translations are pretty close and are more than enough to get the information across to readers.

Please take a peek and let me know what you think. Is there another language you think we should include?

 Photos of the week
This week's pics come courtesy of Joy of Bocce faithful Michael Grasser.

Mike sends photos from his recent trip to Chiasso, Switzerland where he coached the USA team to a very respectable 8th place finish in the World Bocce Championships.

The venue is close to the border between Italy and Switzerland and the Italian language is popular there. This worked out well for our mostly Italian speaking entourage of Mike Conti, Dr. Angel Cordano, Dan Passaglia, Pierino Guglielmetti, and Mario Massa.

The games were played in the Malpensa Athletic Facility (which also hosts hockey, soccer, volleyball, basketball).

Photos highlight the facility while showing the ball racks, swing boards, and Plexiglas barriers at the court ends. There is a shot of Emiliano Benedetti, who, according to Grasser, is "The best Italian player and probably the best player in the world."

One photo provides a fabulous view of Lake Lugano from Hotel Serpiano where our USA athletes were housed - a 20-30 minute drive from the bocce complex. The host country (this year, Switzerland) picks up all of the athletes' expenses (including cars and a guide) during their stay.

The courts can be dismantled to make room for more bleachers or to change sports. These are multi-use athletic areas (basketball, hockey, volleyball, soccer, etc.). Workers employ hydraulics in moving the flooring components to convert the arena from one sport to the next.

The Henselite Bowls Measure is a metal telescopic device not much bigger than a ball point pen. Approximately 6 inches when closed, it extends to a meter.

The Henselite is designed for inside measure and for close ones at that. The player or referee first estimates the distance between the pallino and the two bocce balls to be compared. Then, he extends the appropriate telescopic sections to a length slightly less than that estimate.

Next, he places the device between the pallino and one of the balls in question and extends it until it almost touches both balls.

The head of the tool is equipped with a screw-top mechanism. Turning the top in one direction lengthens the tool, while winding in the opposite direction shortens it. This fine tuning makes for very precise measuring. Finally, the measurer places the device between the pallino and the other ball in contention, and compares.

Care must be taken not to disturb the positions of balls being measured.

The device fits in and clips onto your shirt pocket. It even has calipers for checking those really close points. It is the perfect gift for the bocce aficionado in your life. Like our other measures, it retails for 19.95 plus shipping.

{Hey, bocce's great, but I'm always on the look-out for all kinds of good products for my readers}

Ultra Prime™ is an advanced amino acid supplement that functions as an anabolic to build muscle and as a secretagogue to naturally increase the secretion of human growth hormone (HGH), the "master hormone" produced naturally by the brain's pituitary gland that governs the body's growth, aging and health maintenance.

This is not HGH. This is a substance that increases your body's natural production of HGH.

HGH influences the growth of cells that comprise bones, muscles and other organs throughout the body, and its levels decline as we age, contributing to the natural aging process.

Secretagogues are substances which can increase the production and natural release of HGH within the body.

Increasing the secretion of HGH helps the body to produce insulin-like growth factors (IGF) that provide a multitude of benefits that can return your metabolism to a more youthful state and help optimize your health.
