Hello bocce fans,

This coming Saturday (November 11) my group is running a bocce tourney fund-raiser for Exchange Club (whose pet charity is child abuse prevention). Last year's was a success with 12 four-player teams in the field and this year we are shooting for 16 teams. If you will be in the neighborhood of North Andover, Massachusetts, please consider entering or dropping by to roll a couple balls in our "closest to the pallino" contest. For details, contact Al Pappalardo @ Guesthouse Inn - 978-686-2971 or .

P.S. This time of year the Tourney Update section of the ezine tends to get bare. If you know of any tourneys in the works for the remainder of 2006 or for 2007, please send details to .

Bocce news & readers' feedback
{Publisher's comments in brackets...}

Landscape architect and bocce lover Michael Grasser has launched a terrific new web site (with a little help from yours truly). Mike retails the Italian-made Super Martel Bocce products including high end bocce balls, shoes, scoreboards, and measures.

There is a huge inventory of balls (sets of 4, bag and pallino purchased separately). These are not the K-Mart specials that a lot of recreation players prefer. These are the real deal. According to Grasser "In pointing, they start straight and finish straight. When shooting, they have the anti-rebound characteristics that the professionals demand."

The site, still a "work in progress" as they say, also features carry bags and other accessories. You can contact Mike via the site if you want him to build a backyard or commercial bocce court for you, and soon there will be info on building DaVinci Facilities. "After traveling around the world to view and compete in some of the best Boccedromes, we have created formal design plans for building bocce facilities including dining area/restaurant and four to eight indoor international sized bocce courts."

Check it out at or click the photo above right.

The Joy of Bocce Weekly is still struggling (along with the rest of the ezine industry) with email deliverability. No matter how hard we try, we can't get subscribers to "Confirm" their subscriptions and/or "whitelist" us with their email providers.

Here's my latest solution: Each week when I launch the ezine (usually late Sunday evening), I immediately archive the issue on the web site. So, all anyone has to do on Monday morning (or anytime thereafter) is go to - click on Back Issues - then scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the current issue. Please help get the word out about this so that those who are missing the ezine can access it via my web site.

Don't forget - you have to scroll to the end, past 5 years of archived Joy of Bocce ezines. Thanks.

"I am looking for a buyer for our four 'Let's Play' Backyard Sports Series (Bocce, Horseshoes, Croquet & Badminton) masters. With the dramatic increase in our video deposition business, I simply do not have the time to market these special interest titles to the best of their potential.

The great thing about these titles is the information doesn't have a 'shelf life' and they can generate income for many years.

What does the buyer get? In addition to the BetaSP master of the program, we can transfer the rights to the title(s) with my current duplication / fulfillment house (if desired) so they can continue shipping the programs for you. This facility can also prepare DVD's, including insert sheets for the DVD cases from the existing VHS artwork.

As with anything you've taken a lot of personal pride and care with, you want to make sure that one of your creations has a good home."

{These videos are very professionally done. The bocce one has an excellent section on the history of the game. The video needs a little updating, but this might be a smart investment for someone with a little bocce savvy. Photos of the week
This week's photos follow a pattern I am trying to maintain. They are posted on a separate section (Bocce Tidbits) of the web site so that they will be available permanently rather than for just one week.

The pics were submitted by Carmine and Maria D'Agostino of Franklin, Massachusetts. You may recall that I wrote about visiting them a few weeks back. Carmine is the fellow who said "I have an Italian wife who will cook up a storm if you come to visit." {An offer too good to refuse.}

The D'Agostinos built a beautiful backyard court and sent a slew of photos chronicling the project from start to finish. Warning: if you are planning on building your own court, view these pictures at your own risk. You may opt for paying a construction crew instead when you see the yeoman's job building this baby.

Many thanks to the D'Agostino family. Their photographs are sure to help others planning a similar project. Please follow their lead by sending shots of the bocce action in your area.

Bocce product of the week
DaVinci Bocce

Michael Grasser's new web site is the bocce "product" of the week. It deserves our attention.

Imported from Italy - Super Martel bocce balls, carry bags and other accessories.

Grasser will also build you a backyard or commercial court or a full blown DaVinci facility with dining area and up to 8 indoor bocce courts. This is an important site for our game. Please review the site and then click the Feedback button there to wish Mike well with the new product line and web site. Better yet - while on the site, purchase a fabulous set of Super Martel balls for the "bocce pro" in your life.
