Hello bocce friends,

I'm launching a new plan of attack in the "bocce wars" in an attempt to get the word out to a larger number of potential bocce converts. I'm hoping you will help by forwarding this Special Edition to any individual, group, or business that might be interested.

I've been waiting patiently for someone to build a boccedrome here on the east coast. I'm sure it will happen, but I moving to "Plan B" in the meantime.

I want to run more corporate outings and company parties with a bocce theme in the hopes of spreading the game "Johnny Appleseed style" from one group to another. I've outlined the plan below. Any help you can offer to get some momentum going will be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
Mario Pagnoni (The Bocce Guy)

The Bocce Guy
I'm the bocce guy, preferring that name to Mr. Bocce as the latter carries with it the connotation of being a great player, which I am not. Yes, that's me to the right...not very photogenic despite the fact that I am devastatingly handsome in person. {I smile a lot more in person.}

Bocce Guy justs sounds "cool" anyway. The Bocce Guy knows all about the sport, knows the answers to all questions bocce or can point the seeker in the direction of the solution. You'd expect no less from "The Bocce Guy".

An avid basketball and baseball player, I started bocce at the tender age of 12 in the south end of Springfield, Massachusetts at the Frattellanza Club ( http://www.fratellanza.org ) where my father was president.

Looking off the back porch of our three-family tenement, I got a perfect view of the bocce courts as the Frattellanza Club was my next door neighbor. My friend John Collins and I used to hop the fence and roll a few balls when the men went inside the club to consume one alcoholic beverage or another.

Since then, I've travelled the USA playing, interviewing top players, photographing bocce venues, running and officiating events, lecturing and writing about bocce.

My book, The Joy of Bocce was dubbed "The definitive guide to the sport" by none other than Newsweek.

My web site, JoyofBocce.com is one of the most popular bocce sites on the web and my ezine, The Joy of Bocce Weekly, connects bocce players everywhere.

I'm just the guy to run your bocce event, be it a fund-raiser, tournament, party or corporate outing.

The Plan...
I'm moving in a new direction, running corporate events with a bocce theme. I'll come to your corporate headquarters or the function room of your choice and organize a day of bocce the attendees will never forget.

All you need is a carpeted room or function hall where we can set up temporary courts for the event. You can choose from any variety of tournament formats or just play informally. I'll do a brief talk on bocce and even briefer demonstration on how to play the game, then oversee and referee the games as needed.

I'll be available the entire day to answer questions, sign books, show off various bocce items and props.

You can bring in your own caterer or I'll "hook you up" with a number of options for food and beverages.

I'll set up the courts, supply the balls and scoreboards...The photo above right gives you an idea of what the vinyl courts look like. We set them up on carpet or Astroturf, play for a couple hours, and break them down again.

The Advantages Over Traditional Outings
Looking for a unique holiday party or annual company outing?

Positive social dynamics

California telecommunications giant Cisco Systems was one of the first to offer a company bocce outing. When management saw the positive social dynamics that the game generated, they were delighted. Word spread. In short order, companies all over the west were hosting bocce parties for their staffs.

Good-natured competition

Rather than sitting in a function hall chatting and dining, staffers were learning a new sport, one that lends itself to good-natured competition. The camaraderie fostered was good for employees and great for company morale.

Build camaraderie

Two years ago Tony Battaglia built the Palazzo di Bocce in Orion Township, Michigan. With an Italian restaurant and 10 indoor bocce courts, Battaglia not only hosted the 2005 World Singles Championship, but over 1000 company parties as well.

Campo di Bocce Los Gatos similar success has led to the recent opening of Campo di Bocce Livermore. Demand for these events grow as companies saw the value of building staff camaraderie.

Improve company morale

In 2006 groups in Chicago and Philadelphia began plans for bocce facilities and another is in the early stages for the Boston area. Visionaries see the value in offering morale building company outings.

REMEMBER...

Your company outing will be run by New England’s
leading Bocce aficionados.
